Phoenix

i love the symbolism of the phoenix rising. . .i'm trying to keep my illustrations simple and i'm working in a little more texture and some play on the foreground/background relationship.. . we'll see where that goes.. .

my large container of detail brushes has gone missing, so it feels a little rough and not as polished as i usually do. . .
but it was fun to play with the hot pink/purple into orange and yellow.

I say great job! You are right, the pinks and purple do swirl in pretty good. Nice illustration!

beautiful! what's your medium? I'm guessing acrylics or pastels.

I agree with the gang. Point of view really knocks this one over the edge.

thanks for all the kind words! illustration friday is the best motivator/ego boost!

i use watered down acrylics and colored pencil on 300lb watercolor board(dickblick.com)

i do layers of each, the wax in the pencil lets the layers of wash come through it and it makes some cool effects. i'm awful at watercolor, it all turns brown, the watered down acrylic just does better by me.
